Each fall Monarchs migrate to a warm region to spend the winter. It so happens that some
migrating females stop to lay eggs in my backyard! The vigil begins as a frost will kill the
milkweed plants and the caterpillars. I check the daily weather report. If a freeze appears
imminent the caterpillars are gathered up and brought into the warm house. Over the years
I've taken photos and on the following pages you can see the "wonder of it all" or if you
prefer scientific terminology - metamorphosis.
